Buckeyes put first tweet up for sale

Ohio State is one of the most recognizable brands in college athletics. And the Buckeyes football social media account is among the best and most popular in the country.

For a steep price, an Ohio State fan can own a piece of the Ohio State football social media presence. The Twitter account for the football program (@OhioStateFB) has put its first tweet, which was sent on April 23, 2016, up for sale as a non-fungible token, or NFT. It is further explained on the sale posting.

The creator of a tweet decides if they would like to mint it on the blockchain, creating a 1-of-1 autographed version.

The current bid for the first tweet from the football program account, which reads “O-H #GoBucks” is at $750, as of late Sunday night. But that price is expected to climb into this week and could reach at least $1,000.

The Buckeyes have one of the best social media presences of any football program. And a fan of Ohio State will be able to buy the first tweet sent from the official team account.

Ohio State punches NCAA Tournament ticket after Big Ten title loss

Ohio State already knew it was going to be included in the field of 68 before the bracket release.

There was no drama for the Buckeyes heading into Selection Sunday. But now, the Buckeyes officially know their seeding and matchup for the NCAA Tournament.

After a deep run in the Big Ten Tournament and a heart-breaking loss to Illinois in the conference title game Sunday afternoon, the Buckeyes were named a No. 2 seed in the Big Dance. They’ll face Oral Roberts, the champion of the Summit League, on Friday in the South Region in their Round of 64 matchup.

Ohio State has now punched its ticket to the NCAA Tournament in three of the four years under Chris Holtmann, with the exception of last year. The Buckeyes would have certainly made the Big Dance last season had it not been canceled.

Highly-rated safety is must-land prospect for Buckeyes

Turn on the highlight tape and it’s easy to see that Xavier Nwankpa fits what Ohio State wants in a safety prospect quite well.

At nearly 6-foot-3 and just about 200 pounds, Nwankpa looks like he could play linebacker. He runs like he could play cornerback and his defensive instincts belie his youth. He’s the country’s No. 5-ranked safety according to the 247Sports.com composite rankings. But clearly there’s one national network that hasn’t seen him play, because anyone who has knows he’s a top-25 prospect in the nation, period.

The Buckeyes are hoping he doesn’t need many trips anywhere else to realize where he fits best. Ohio State knows its defense is better with a top-tier, sideline-to-sideline safety who understands the physical and mental side of the game. That is exactly what Xavier Nwankpa is.

That’s why he’s the third player on The List from Lettermen Row. Jeremy Birmingham and Spencer Holbrook break down his recruitment and why he’s so important for Ryan Day and Ohio State here.
