Betting odds favor C.J. Stroud to winning Buckeyes job
C.J. Stroud has led the Ohio State quarterback competition since spring practice. He appears to still be in the lead for that coveted job.
And even the folks in Las Vegas believe he’ll be the starter in a few weeks when the Buckeyes open the season at Minnesota. Stroud is currently the favorite (-300 odds) to win the job and begin the season under center. Kyle McCord has the second-best odds (+240), while Jack Miller is a betting long shot at +1600.
Stroud has been working to become the starter and replace Justin Fields since he arrived at Ohio State in January of 2020. The former five-star signal-caller is beginning to prove he is the man to beat for the job. Even Las Vegas agrees.
Will Miyan Williams win starting running back job?
Ohio State has a loaded running back room to work with this fall. And although Master Teague is the incumbent back with the most experience, second-year player Miyan Williams may be taking charge in the race to be the starter.
Lettermen Row’s Austin Ward has more:
The sample size is obviously small, both in terms of what Williams did as a freshman and in just a handful of periods of practice on Wednesday. With Teague’s experience, leadership and proven success as a powerful short-yardage finisher, there’s no doubt going to be a role for him in the offense. But it’s also not a surprise that Ohio State would be expanding the search looking for a more dynamic, all-purpose weapon at tailback — and this month will be critical for position coach Tony Alford to evaluate his options.
Miyan Williams was at the head of that line to start the month. Now the work really begins if he wants to stay there in September.
