Garrett Wilson, Chris Olave among early favorites for NFL Rookie of Year

The former Ohio State receivers who became first-round picks are already making noise as potential NFL superstars.

Former Buckeyes offensive skill talents Garrett Wilson and Chris Olave are among the favorites for NFL Rookie of the Year, according to the folks at VegasInsider.com.

Wilson, who was picked by the Jets at No. 10, and Olave, who went No. 11 to the Saints, are both in good positioning to win the award. They’ll both be primary targets in their new offense with plenty of expectations.

And if the production at Ohio State for the last few years was any indication of what kind of pros they will be, both could make a case for that award at the end of next season.

Priority Buckeyes target sets official visit to Ohio State

The four-star receiver prospect from American Heritage (Fort Lauderdale) High School announced his upcoming visit — an official visit — via Twitter on Monday afternoon.

The 6-foot, 190-pound wideout will return to Columbus during an important June weekend. That trip could be huge for Ohio State as it looks to land the country’s No. 5-ranked receiver. He was last on campus with the Buckeyes over the weekend of April 1 and left that trip feeling confident and at home in Central Ohio.

“It was important, I wanted to come up with an open mind,” Brandon Inniss said then. “I’m open to all options and Ohio State, coming up here, it felt like home.”

Inniss is scheduling out all of his official visits presently. He’s got one scheduled to Alabama and is expected to visit USC officially as well. The local team, Miami, is also a huge threat in his recruitment. When we last spoke to Inniss, he suggested that a decision wouldn’t come until December.

Former Buckeyes defensive back commits to Tennessee

A former Ohio State defensive back has found a new home: Andre Turrentine committed to Tennessee on Monday.

A former four-star recruit in the class of 2021, Turrentine was part of a five-man defensive back haul for the Buckeyes just a year ago. He didn’t enroll early, arriving in June and beginning his career last summer before losing his black stripe in September.

But with less than a full year in the program, Turrentine wasn’t able to get on the field early and redshirted during his freshman campaign. This spring, he wasn’t making the push for playing time in Year Two. Now he’s leaving.

Ohio State is in the middle of trying to settle on which defensive backs. And the departures of Turrentine and Bryson Shaw at the safety positions in April show the Buckeyes might be getting comfortable with their safety rotation, and those who aren’t in the mix are looking elsewhere, including other safeties Bryson Shaw and Marcus Hooker, who both started games for the Buckeyes in their career.
