Jacolbe Cowan transferring to North Carolina

For the second straight day, a former Ohio State defender has landed at North Carolina.

After former Buckeyes defensive back Lejond Cavazos committed to the Tar Heels on Monday, defensive lineman Jacolbe Cowan also pledged to transfer to North Carolina after just a week in the transfer portal.

Now a third-year player from Charlotte (N.C.) Providence Day School, Cowan dealt with injuries that slowed down his development in Columbus but kept fighting through them with an eye on finding the field more in his redshirt freshman season in 2021.

The talented 6-foot-5, 262-pound defensive lineman is now taking his talents to Chapel Hill, back to his home state, after leaving Ohio State.

New Tim May Podcast episode

the Tim May Podcast is back with another full episode to break down every angle of the draft with multiple guests to provide a variety of angles.

Tim welcomes Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer, who writes the Monday Morning Quarterback and is as plugged in as anyone on the NFL landscape. An Ohio State graduate and Buckeyes fan, Breer has a unique perspective on the Buckeyes as they gear up to make the leap to the NFL this weekend at the draft.

Tim is also joined by On3 Sports writer Eric Prisbell, who covers name, image and likeness as well as the entire college sports business landscape for On3. Prisbell provides an update on how name, image and likeness is changing college sports every day — and what the future of college athletics can be.

He also made sure to chat with Lettermen Row senior writer Austin Ward to cap it all.

That conversations with Tim, Albert, Eric and Austin make this edition of The Tim May Podcast a must-listen episode. And it’s not just an Ohio State football discussion this week. It’s about where the Buckeyes land in the national landscape of college football business — and in the NFL draft landscape as it approaches this weekend.

Buckeyes safety Marcus Hooker enters transfer portal

Another member of the Ohio State secondary is leaving the program: Marcus Hooker entered the transfer portal Tuesday. Lettermen Row confirmed the news that the senior will leave the Buckeyes program and try finding a fit elsewhere. He has one year of eligibility remaining.

A former three-star recruit, Hooker had some of the athleticism and ball-hawk skills that made his brother Malik a first-round NFL Draft pick, and the Buckeyes thought Marcus Hooker could develop into a similar-type player. But up-and-down play, mixed with two off-field incidents during his career, continued to hold Hooker back from becoming a star for the Buckeyes.

Now with three new defensive coaches, a change in philosophy and a logjam at safety with young talent and veterans who have played well, Hooker seemed to be headed for an exit from the program.

The Buckeyes are still in good shape in the safety room, even after the departure of Hooker, Bryson Shaw and sophomore Andre Turrentine, who entered the transfer portal on Monday.
