Six Buckeyes change jersey numbers for upcoming season
Ohio State updated its roster Tuesday ahead of spring camp in just a couple of weeks. And six different Buckeyes have changed their jersey numbers, all on the defensive side of the ball.
Cornerback was the position in which most players changed their numbers. Jakailin Johnson will wear No. 4, switching from his freshman season when he wore No. 32. Jordan Hancock will also have a new number, going from 13 to 7.Denzel Burke will wear No. 5 this season after his breakout campaign while wearing No. 29 a season ago. And freshman Ryan Turner, who wore No. 24 in spring practice, will wear No. 29.
Two other Buckeyes, Mitchell Melton and Cameron Martinez, switched numbers. Martinez will wear 13 instead of 10, while Melton is going from 20 to 17.
New Tim May Podcast
Tim welcomes former Ohio State quarterback Cornelius Green onto the show to talk about his career at Ohio State, how he was able to be the quarterback while Archie Griffin was in the backfield and why the Buckeyes should have won at least one national title with Woody Hayes, Archie Griffin and Cornelius Green.
Cornelius and Tim have a multi-layered conversation about how good Buckeyes football was in the 1970s, life after football and the Buckeyes program moving forward. The stories told are cemented in Ohio State football history, and Green is there to tell many of them.
What was Cornelius Green’s experience like as the first black quarterback to ever start for the Buckeyes? How has he been since his Buckeyes career ended long ago? How much has the game changed, especially as Ohio State becomes a pass-happy offensive juggernaut? And what does he think about the Buckeyes this offseason? All of that is answered in the latest show. Oh, and Tim May made sure to ask him about playing with Archie Griffin and being coached by Woody Hayes.
C.J. Stroud named to Davey O’Brien Award watch list
Folks around the country know just how good C.J. Stroud can be this year for Ohio State.
Stroud added to his growing list of watch-list inclusions Tuesday; the Buckeyes second-year starting quarterback was among 35 quarterbacks named to the Davey O’Brien Award watch list, and he is among the preseason favorites to win the award.

Stroud was a finalist for the Davey O’Brien Award last season. Pittsburgh’s Kenny Pickett and Alabama’s Bryce Young were also finalists, and Young won the award. He also beat Stroud for the Heisman Trophy.
But Stroud has gotten significantly better this offseason for Ohio State, on and off the field.
Stroud, top wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba and running back TreVeyon Henderson are all being listed on preseason watch lists and All-American teams, and Monday was a big one. All three were named to the preseason watch list for the Maxwell Award earlier this week, which is given annually to the top player in all of college football.
