Good morning, Ohio State fans, and welcome to the Scarlet Sunrise. Football will always be our focus, but every day we’ll cover news, notes and analysis from across Buckeyes sports. Join us each morning to get caught up on everything you missed in the world of Ohio State football, recruiting, basketball and more.

Julian Fleming turning heads, gets black stripe off

Julian Fleming was the No. 1 wide receiver in America in his recruiting class. What he seems to be doing in practice is validating why he was so highly rated coming out of high school in rural Pennsylvania.

Fleming, a headliner of the loaded 2020 recruiting class, got his black stripe removed from his helmet over the weekend for the Buckeyes, a signal that he’s showing signs of stardom in practice. Fleming became the third freshman wide receiver in the class to lose a black stripe. Gee Scott and Jaxon Smith-Njigba both had theirs removed already.

The quartet of wide receivers for the Buckeyes from the class of 2020 make up the most talented freshman receiver combo in the country. And it seems the most highly-rated of them all is showing why every program in America wanted him. Julian Fleming is officially a part of the Ohio State football program.

Buckeyes back in AP, Coaches polls

Ohio State is officially back in the mix among the best teams in college football.

After the canceled Big Ten season season, the Buckeyes and other Big Ten schools were omitted from the Associated Press Top 25 and coaches poll. Ohio State’s streak of 132 consecutive weeks in the AP poll snapped. But now that the Big Ten is back with a fall football schedule, the voters and coaches are able to add Big Ten teams back into the rankings.

And the Buckeyes are back where they belong. Ohio State is No. 6 in the Coaches Poll and AP Poll, which were released Sunday afternoon. Clemson remained in the top spot, followed by Alabama, Florida, Georgia and Notre Dame. Ohio State received two first-place votes in the Coaches Poll and four first-place votes in the AP Poll.

The AP Top 10 and Coaches Poll Top 10 were identical this week.

Coaches Poll and AP Poll

ICYMI: Kevin Wilson, tight ends meet with media

Ohio State offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson can find new, creative ways to help the tight ends for the Buckeyes be impactful in one of the country’s best offenses. He and a few of the tight ends met with the media Friday to talk about their production and the offense at large.

Luke Farrell, Jeremy Ruckert, Jake Hausmann and Wilson talked about Justin Fields progression in Year Two as a starter, the potent potential of the Ohio State offense, the running backs for the Buckeyes and, of course, the talented tight end room.

All three tight ends are veteran leaders who can be huge for the offense this year. Wilson will make sure they all have a role in that offense, and he made sure to talk about much more than just tight ends. Lettermen Row broke down What We Learned from the conversations with Wilson and the tight ends unit here.
