Buckeyes enter season with top-five offensive line unit

Ohio State is expecting to be better on the offensive line. And Folks around the country think this line can be one of the best in the country.

On3’s Mike Huguenin ranked the top 12 offensive lines in America entering this season, and the Buckeyes came in at No. 4, an impressive number for a unit that struggled at times last fall.

Ohio State coach Ryan Day might agree with that assessment. He was quite high on the Buckeyes starting five offensive linemen at Big Ten Media Days a couple of weeks ago.

“When you look at both tackles, Paris [Johnson] and Dawand [Jones], they’re both very talented,” Day said. “Both have played a lot. Paris, not as much as tackle. And that was a reason why I wanted to get Paris in there last year to play because even though he was even though he was a guard, he still played a lot of football. Matt Jones has played more. Luke [Wypler] had a great year. And then Donovan [Jackson] is going to be younger, but we think he’s very talented.

“So when you look at those five, you think that those are five really good offensive linemen.”

Full coverage of Buckeyes training camp

Defensive coordinator Jim Knowles and his body of work remain the focal point after the first full week of training camp. After watching Thursday’s full practice, the new-look defense was in full focus. And the offense continues to look like one of the best units in the country.

Lettermen Row staffers Spencer Holbrook and Tim May are back with another post-practice video and they break down their major takeaways on both sides of the ball after watching the almost two-hour practice in full.

Don’t miss the Practice Report with Spencer and Tim as they try to squeeze in so many different topics to discuss after the only full viewing period before the season-opening game next month.
