Jeremy Ruckert shining early during Senior Bowl week
Jeremy Ruckert has been one of the best tight ends in the country the last two seasons.
So it’s no surprise to learn he’s performing well early at this week’s Senior Bowl practices. Ruckert cracked the list of the most impressive players during the first practice of the week, according to many media members in attendance, including The Athletic’s Dane Brugler.
After four seasons with the Buckeyes, Ruckert has a chance to become the top tight end in the NFL draft this spring. He certainly is off to a good start in trying to make that case.
He’s turning heads and impressing early in the Senior Bowl week.
New Tim May Podcast
On the latest episode of the Tim May Podcast, Lettermen Row’s Tim May returns for another big edition of the show as he welcomes on Jeremy Crabtree and Jeremy Birmingham to talk Ohio State and college football recruiting.
Crabtree is the senior recruiting editor for On3, and Birmingham is the Lettermen Row director of recruiting covering the Buckeyes. That pair joins Tim’s show to tag team National Signing Day coverage as Ohio State is wrapping up its 2022 recruiting class.
Birmingham discusses where Ohio State stands in each of their recruitments while Crabtree hits on the bigger picture at the national level as Ohio State is set to lock in the No. 4-ranked class in the country.
That will be Ryan Day’s third consecutive class ranked in the top five of the national rankings during his three years in charge of the Buckeyes as their head coach. Day will be doing so as he welcomes in a totally revamped coaching staff that offers up plenty of interesting questions about where Ohio State and its recruiting efforts will go in future classes.
Buckeyes set for tame National Signing Day
The advent of the early signing period in December back in 2017 has taken a massive amount of luster off of February’s National Signing Day over the past five years – for Ohio State and pretty much every single college football program across the country.
That was true even during a recruiting cycle like the 2022 class has provided in which a number of factors – the 15-month long dead period from March 2020-June 2021 chief among them – turned this into a more unusual cycle than previous ones.

So for the Buckeyes, there is virtually zero drama coming on Wednesday – at least in comparison to what the early signing period can sometimes provide.
There are no new, unexpected names that will come out of the woodwork and sign with the Buckeyes on Wednesday. But they are pretty much locked into the No. 4 spot, which means Day will have gone 3-for-3 in signing a top-five ranked class since he took over the program.
Lettermen Row’s Zack Carpenter has a full preview of what should be a quiet signing period for Ohio State.
