Good morning, Ohio State fans, and welcome to the Scarlet Sunrise. Football will always be our focus, but every day we’ll cover news, notes and analysis from across Buckeyes sports. Join us each morning to get caught up on everything you missed in the world of Ohio State football, recruiting, basketball and more in Scarlet Sunrise.

Sevyn Banks not with Buckeyes at Rose Bowl

Ohio State had four players opt out to begin preparing for the NFL draft. But the Buckeyes will be without more than just those four key contributors Saturday in the Rose Bowl against Utah.

Cornerback Sevyn Banks didn’t make the trip to Southern California with the Buckeyes. He wasn’t at practice with the rest of the roster Tuesday, and he is not going to be available for the game, seemingly ending his Ohio State career.

Banks was tabbed as one of the to cornerbacks in the country entering this season, garnering preseason All-America honors from multiple outlets. But injuries and shaky performances held him back for most of the year.

Now he isn’t even with the Buckeyes for the Rose Bowl, ending his disappointing season one game earlier than expected.

Kirk Herbstreit joins The Tim May Podcast

Lettermen Row’s Tim May is joined by special guest host, former Ohio State tight end Jake Ballard, for a Rose Bowl-centric show with a full preview of the matchup with the Utes and plenty more.

Tim and Jake give their full breakdown of what to expect on New Year’s Day as the Buckeyes gear up to try stopping a powerful Utah offense and ferocious defense. They give some predictions on who could sit out and who might be difference-makers in The Grandaddy of Them All.

Tim is also joined by former Ohio State quarterback and current ESPN college football analyst Kirk Herbstreit for a big-picture look at the College Football Playoff, the New Year’s Six bowl games and, of course, the Buckeyes chance at a Rose Bowl crown over Utah. Herbstreit provides his unique perspective as one of the leading voices in the entire sport.

Herbstreit will be in Pasadena on New Year’s Day to call the game just hours after being in South Florida to call the College Football Playoff semifinal at the Orange Bowl. They break down his busy schedule and how exactly it all happens in such a short time.

ICYMI: Lettermen Live hosted by Roosters

With Lettermen Row senior writer Austin Ward out in California, Lettermen Row director of recruiting Jeremy Birmingham takes the reins of hosting duties, and he is joined by former Ohio State quarterback Justin Zwick, former Buckeyes defensive back Tyvis Powell, Nicole Cox of Roosters and Lettermen Row beat writer Spencer Holbrook.

The crew gives a detailed preview of the Rose Bowl as Ohio State looks to put a good cap on a disappointing season and head into the offseason with some momentum.

The Buckeyes will have to fight through opt-outs, though, and that’s one of the key points they touch on throughout Monday’s loaded episode – in addition to how Ohio State coach Ryan Day and his staff are trying to prepare their team for a spotlight game following a break from the holidays.

All of that and plenty more Buckeyes news and analysis are part of another jam-packed show. As we head into the new year, come out to Roosters for a good time and don’t forget to grab the $2 appetizers every Tuesday.
