Tony Alford spurns LSU offer, sticking with Ohio State

Tony Alford is one of the hottest coaching names in college football right now.

But he can’t be lured away from Ohio State. The Buckeyes running backs coach was offered a job on Brian Kelly’s new staff at LSU this week in Kelly’s attempt to reunite with Alford. They worked together at Notre Dame in the past.

But Alford is electing to stick around with Ryan Day and Ohio State, spurning the offer to head south.

Lettermen Row sources anticipate Alford will receive a contract boost from the Buckeyes in the offseason, allowing Ohio State to keep one of its top assistants while giving Alford compensation for his work.

Alford could have left and headed to LSU with Brian Kelly. Instead, he’s choosing to stay put at Ohio State.

New Tim May Podcast to dissect Buckeyes rivalry loss

The Buckeyes rivalry loss to Michigan has been broken down and dissected from just about every angle, but the latest episode of the Tim May Podcast brings an even more unique perspective to what went wrong for Ohio State in a potentially program-changing loss.

On this edition of the podcast, Lettermen Row’s Tim May and Austin Ward are joined on a loaded show by former Ohio State linebacker Matt Wilhelm, former Buckeyes defensive back Marlon Kerner and Sporting News college football writer Bill Bender to break down that defeat and what it means for the Buckeyes moving forward.

Michigan’s offense dominated Ohio State between the trenches, as Hassan Haskins powered run after run up the middle en route to tying a program record with five rushing touchdowns.

How could an Ohio State defense – which seemed to have fix the issues that plagued it during its Week Two loss to Oregon – be so vulnerable to a fairly simple game plan?

All of those questions – and plenty more Ohio State analysis – are broken down on this edition of the Tim May Podcast.

Buckeyes tabbed as top two-loss team by CFP committee

The College Football Playoff hopes for Ohio State were crushed after the Buckeyes lost to Michigan last weekend.

But the CFP committee still believes the Buckeyes are among the most elite teams in the country. No, Ohio State won’t be going to the playoff semifinal for a third straight season. But it did check in at No. 7 in the penultimate rankings Tuesday night, making it the top two-loss team in the rankings.

Ohio State now must wait for conference championship weekend to find out which bowl game it will be sent to for a consolation prize. For now, the Buckeyes will have to be content at No. 7, as the top two-loss team in America and on the outside looking in.
