Scarlet Sunrise: Ohio State officially announces signing of transfer tight end Max Klare

COLUMBUS — Ohio State has been active in the Transfer Portal since it opened on Monday, Dec. 9. The Buckeyes have already added a several impact players to the roster for next season.

Former Purdue tight Max Klare, the No. 1 tight end in the On3 Transfer Portal Rankings, is the highest-ranked transfer portal addition for Ohio State this cycle. He committed on Monday night and the Buckeye official announced the signing of Klare on Saturday morning.

Klare led Purdue with 51 receptions, 685 receiving yards and four touchdowns this season. He was named Third Team All-Big Ten by the coaches and Honorable Mention All-Big Ten by the media.

Ohio State will likely pass the ball more with former five-star quarterback Julian Sayin under center next season. Klare is the best receiving tight end the Buckeyes have had in several years. He will provide Sayin with another talented pass catcher to go along with Jeremiah SmithCarnell Tate, Brandon Inniss and the rest of Brian Hartline’s wide receiver room.

The 6-foot-4, 245-pound Klare is a Cincinnati St. Xavier High School product.

Ohio State currently has five transfer portal commitments. Additionally, as of Saturday, the Buckeyes have officially announced the signing of all five. The class consists of Klare, former West Virginia running back CJ Donaldson, former Minnesota offensive lineman Phillip Daniels, former Rice offensive lineman Ethan Onianwa and former Idaho State EDGE Logan George.

ICYMI: Ohio State offensive linemen Deontae and Devontae Armstrong shed black stripes

Ohio State has been busy restocking and rebuilding the offensive line room this offseason. The Buckeyes have also been developing a few talented freshmen, however.

Freshman offensive tackle Deontae Armstrong and interior offensive lineman Devontae Armstrong appear to be taking advantage of postseason practices. The twin offensive linemen from Northeast Ohio lost their black stripe after practice Saturday, a sign that they are now officially a members of the Ohio State football program.

All four offensive linemen that Ohio State signed in the 2024 class have now lost their black stripes. Freshman offensive tackle Ian Moore, the Buckeyes highest-ranked offensive line signee last cycle, shed his black stripe in August. While freshman interior offensive lineman Gabe VanSickle lost his black stripe in October prior to the Nebraska game.

Ohio State offensive line coach Justin Frye signed a talented class in 2024.
