COLUMBUS — Ohio State and defensive line coach Larry Johnson have restocked the Buckeyes defensive line room with a trio of talented defensive tackles the 2025 class. Four-star DL Maxwell Roy has signed his Letter of Intent to Ohio State and is officially a Buckeye.
What does it mean for the Buckeyes? Let’s check it out.
Who is Maxwell Roy?
Maxwell Roy is a four-star defensive lineman from Delran, New Jersey. He attended St. Joseph’s Prep High School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He committed to the Buckeyes on July 1, 2024 over Michigan and Rutgers. Odom was one of the Buckeyes direct recruiting wins over the Wolverines in the 2025 class.

On3 Ranking: No. 71 defensive linemen and No. 16 in Pennsylvania
Hometown: Delran, New Jersey

Roy is another ideal fit with what Ohio State wants to do defensively. He is a 6-foot-2.5 and 290- pound defensive line prospect that can play 3-technique or nose tackle. Roy has the strength to win against centers and guard at the college level. He also has the power to hold his ground at the point of attack.
Roy is one of three defensive linemen for the Buckeyes in the 2025 cycle. He joins Trajen Odom and Jarquez Carter in the Buckeyes defensive line class.

How did Roy end up at Ohio State?
Michigan looked like the team to beat in Roy’s recruitment for much of the summer but Ohio State started to overtake the Wolverines as his July 1 decision date approached.
Roy ultimately chose the Buckeyes over the Wolverines due to his relationship with coaches and players inside the program.
“It starts with the great relationship our high school has with Ohio State,” Roy told On3. “From Isaiah West to Marvin Harrison Jr. to Kyle McCord, we have a great connection with the people at Ohio State. Then for me, it is where I feel I can be my best. Going to play for Larry Johnson, he has the stats that back up him developing me as a player and making me the best I can be.”
Roy will enroll at Ohio State in June and on campus in June to begin his career with the Buckeyes.
