The Early-Signing Period is here and Ohio State is set to once again bring in one of the country’s best recruiting classes. Lettermen Row is tracking the Buckeyes recruiting news throughout the signing period as 2025 commitments officially join the Ohio State football program. The latest Letter of Intent is in: Jarquez Carter has signed with the Buckeyes.

COLUMBUS — Ohio State and defensive line coach Larry Johnson have added another important piece to Buckeyes defensive line room. Four-star DL Jarquez Carter has signed his Letter of Intent to Ohio State and is officially a Buckeye.

What does it mean for the Buckeyes? Let’s check it out.

Who is Jarquez Carter?

Jarquez Carter is a four-star defensive lineman from Newberry, Florida. He attended Newberry High School. He committed to the Buckeyes on July 18, 2024 over offers from Florida, Florida State, Miami and UCF. Carter was one of the Buckeyes biggest under-the-radar recruiting wins of the cycle as they beat all the big Florida schools.

On3 Industry Rankings: No. 328 overall, No. 28 defensive linemen, No. 46 in Florida

On3 Ranking: No. 47 defensive linemen and No. 77 in Florida

Hometown: Newberry, Florida

High School: Newberry

Jarquez Carter is a different defensive line prospect than what Ohio State typically signs. The 6-foot-2 and 270-pound Carter is an explosive athlete. He excels at shooting gaps in the run game and rushing the passer. He has a quick get off that helps him get past offensive linemen with ease. Carter is still refining his technique but he should be an impact player at Ohio State due to his quickness and strength.

Carter is one of three defensive linemen for Ohio State in the 2025 class. He joins Trajen Odom and Maxwell Roy in the Buckeyes defensive line haul this cycle.

How did Carter end up at Ohio State?

Ohio State offered Carter on November 19 of 2023 following his first visit to Columbus for the Minnesota game. He returned to campus a few months later in March of 2024 for a spring practice.

Carter then took five official visits in June including a mid-week visit to Ohio State from June 18-20. He visited Florida, Penn State and UCF before his trip to Columbus and Miami the following weekend but no school impressed him more than the Buckeyes.

“Ohio State has the best character-based team,” Carter told Lettermen Row. “Right when I got there, the whole defensive line room told me to introduce myself to the team.

“It just feels good, especially with J.T. and Jack. They aren’t going to be here when I get here so them trying to help me and ask how I’m doing, that shows that there’s really a brotherhood at Ohio State.”

Carter will be an early enrollee and on campus in January to take part in spring practices.
