Ohio State highlights: Tate Martell throws first career TD, Dwayne Haskins cruising

COLUMBUS — Dwayne Haskins isn’t the only Ohio State quarterback throwing touchdown bombs. Tate Martell is now getting into the mix for a passing game that continues to be evolving for the Buckeyes.
Mixing in for a drive during the second quarter to get some reps, Martell uncorked a 51-yard strike to Terry McLaurin for the first touchdown pass of his career on Saturday against Rutgers at the Horseshoe.
Tate Martell 51 yard touchdown pass:
The Buckeyes appeared to be going in the wrong direction for the second consecutive week after taking a red-hot Haskins off the field for a series. But Martell stepped in the pocket on a third-and-16 snap and leaned into a throw that sliced through the rain and into the waiting arms of McLaurin.
“I think [the Martell reps] will change as we go into each week and what we see with the defense,†acting Ohio State coach Ryan Day said. “We want to kinda get him in the game. How it plays out, can’t really predict how that’s going to work, but we definitely want to get him in the game and let him go play.

The Buckeyes again found him some work with the rest of the starting offense, this time with more success than in the redshirt freshman’s debut last week.
That followed another strong start for Haskins, who had already tossed three touchdowns for the Buckeyes as their recent dominance over Rutgers continued. By the middle of the second quarter, Ohio State had already built a 35-point lead and had scored the last 149 points unanswered over the last 10 quarters against the Scarlet Knights.
Tougher tests are surely coming for the Buckeyes. But it is already building confidence in both quarterbacks, which should only bode well for a passing attack that is clicking on all cylinders early in the year.
