HOPEWELL, Va. — TreVeyon Henderson could have made an extended cut.

There were runs that the five-star running back was proud of that he wanted to include on his junior-season highlight reel, but it was already pretty comically stuffed and pushing more than 15 minutes just with the plays that ended in the end zone.

So, in the end, Henderson settled on touchdowns only on the clips that validated his standing as one of the most coveted tailback recruits in the country. Even settling on the best of those snaps can be tricky for the new Ohio State commit, who wound up with 53 all-purpose touchdowns last season and a video that is now serving as motivation for him to do it all over again as a senior at Hopewell High School.

“It doesn’t get old, for real,” Henderson told Lettermen Row. “Now that I watch it, I’m kind of like: Dang, can I do this again? Because when I watch it now, some of those plays are pretty crazy.

“I still watch it almost every day, because I just wonder, can I do it again?”

That bar is extremely high, of course. But Henderson is only getting better heading into his final season before planning to sign with the Buckeyes, and there’s also the potential that his numbers could really soar if the Blue Devils need for him to start carrying the football more than around 13 times per game.

Henderson wrapping up his recruitment now allows him to keep attacking his offseason development without any distractions. And while there’s a limit to what he can do right now with his teammates due to the coronavirus, Hopewell coach Ricky Irby has left no doubt that Henderson’s success last season has only fueled him to take another step while also setting a strong example for the rest of his roster.

“You know, the thing about him is that he works even harder with the accolades that he gets,” Irby said. “He’s a special talent. God truly blessed him, and he’s a great kid — great, coachable kid.

“It was fun to watch last year, it really was.”

Hopewell is going to get one more year to watch the Henderson show in person before Ohio State gets a turn. Odds are, though, that there will be another lengthy highlight reel available for anybody who misses it live.

What makes TreVeyon Henderson such a coveted prospect at running back? What is Ohio State going to get in the tailback commit? How high is the ceiling for the five-star sensation? Former Buckeyes star Beanie Wells joined Lettermen Row in the virtual film lab to watch the highlight reel and answer those questions in the latest episode of BuckIQ.
