Ohio State football recruiting can be a wild ride. It’s full of twists and turns as recruits from all over the country maneuver their way to signing day. Lettermen Row is here to help navigate the tumultuous roads by getting to the heart of the matter. We’re talking with the young players and sometimes, the Ohio State coaches and staff members themselves. Today’s guest is Ty Lockwood, a 2023 prospect who has just made his college decision.

COLUMBUS — After a couple weeks of back-and-forth, Ty Lockwood has made his college decision.

The 4-star 2023 prospect from Independence (Thompson’s Station, Tenn.) has committed to Ohio State.

The Buckeyes became a leading candidate for Lockwood’s commitment this summer. He made a pair of visits with his family to Columbus and left town feeling very good about his relationship with Ohio State’s coaching staff.

“It was just as good if not better than I expected for sure,” Lockwood told Lettermen Row following the first visit. “Ohio State is top notch in everything they do. The staff was amazing and the town is great. We might go back at the end of June, and we’re trying to figure out a good game to come to.”

Lockwood didn’t go back at the end of June, but did return at the end of July. That visit, for the Buckeyes Bash and BBQ, helped seal the deal in his recruitment.

“Coach Wilson has done such a great job recruiting me, for a long time,” Lockwood said. “Me and him have built a great relationship. and Coach [Ryan] Day is a coach that I want to play for.

“He’s a good coach and an even better person. Everything they do has a competitive feel to it but they’re always having fun.”

Following that trip, it appeared a commitment was imminent for Lockwood. Still, he wanted to make sure he didn’t rush into anything and went home to sort out his thoughts. The Buckeyes remained at the front of his mind and he saw no more reason to wait.

What made Ohio State the choice? How did he let the coaches know about his decision? Does he intend to be a willing recruiter for the Buckeyes?

Ty Lockwood joined Birminology to discuss his decision and all those things, plus more.

The fun is just beginning in the Class of 2023 for Ohio State. Check out the interview with Lockwood below.
