COLUMBUS — Ohio State senior defensive tackle Tyleik Williams was first listed by head coach Ryan Day as ‘day to day’ on Tuesday. The status of the star defender was again updated Wednesday night. It was considered to be a positive update.

“It looks like he’ll be available for the game,” Day said Wednesday night.

That’s not exactly a sign that Williams will play. Day has listed others as ‘available’ this season before games, only for them not to play in the game.

Saturday was the best sign yet, though, that Williams may play for the Buckeyes. He is not listed on the program’s official ‘availability report’ for the game against Purdue (Noon, FOX).

Williams left the Buckeyes’ 20-13 win over then-No. 3 Penn State midway through the fourth quarter last weekend.

Williams appeared to take an awkward fall backward after being blocked on a 2nd-and-6 run from Nittany Lions running back Kaytron Allen that Buckeyes “nickel” cornerback Jordan Hancock quickly snuffed out.

The 6-foot-3, 327-pound Williams had to be helped off the field by Ohio State medical staff. He didn’t return to the game, but his defensive line stepped up in his absence, notably coming up with stop after stop on a goal line stand just minutes later.

Now Williams could be back on the field without even missing any action. He is not on the availability report for Ohio State, opening the door for him to play against Purdue.

Other notes from Ohio State availability report

+ Tight end Will Kacmarek is officially out again this week. Buckeyes coach Ryan Day mentioned that Kacmarek will be out a while earlier before the Nebraska game, but he recently said . In his place again this week, the Buckeyes will have to rely on tight ends Bennett Christian and Jelani Thurman — as well as even more production from veteran Gee Scott Jr. The good news: Kacmarek was not wearing a sling after practice Wednesday night. He had previously been wearing one.

+ Buckeyes freshman cornerback Calvin Simpson-Hunt will not be suiting up against Purdue.

+ Of course, left tackle Josh Simmons is out for the rest of the year with a knee injury.

The full availability report from the program is now confirmed, making note that Ohio State doesn’t detail injury or disciplinary matters.
