OU basketball isn’t outmatched anymore. But that’s not going to get the job done. And not going to punch a ticket (eventually) to the NCAA Tournament.

The Sooners were in it the whole way, but we’re never able to make that final punch. OU got as close as two points multiple times before falling apart down the stretch.

Texas A&M completes the season sweep of OU by taking down the Sooners 75-68 in College Station on Tuesday night.

It was a second half where OU just kept having to respond to what A&M was doing. The Aggies would stretch it out, then the Sooners would cut back into it.

But in the final four minutes, OU couldn’t execute and A&M put it away for good.

OU Game No. 20 Takeaways

*Brycen Goodine loves playing Texas A&M. Just a weird way that’s all worked out. After scoring 34 points in the two-point loss in Norman, Goodine came alive again.

He scored 24 points, including making four 3-pointers. Goodine was the only one who really made a strong push in those final minutes.

*If it wasn’t Goodine, then it was Jalon Moore. Another 20-point effort for Moore, 22 this time around. But unfortunately for Moore and for OU, the rebounds just weren’t there.

Moore routinely can grab like 6-8 rebounds without even trying. He ended with just two boards. Another solid all-around game, though, including two blocks.

*A game to forget for freshman star Jeremiah Fears. Didn’t score in the first half. Missed one shot in the second half and was never in rhythm.

In 18 minutes, Fears was held scoreless with three assists, two turnovers and a steal. Then he missed a pair of free throws down the stretch.

*A&M was just tougher when it came to the glass. Overall and offensively. The Aggies had a 47-19 rebound advantage and that ballooned to 21-2 offensively. Dayton Forsythe, in 22 minutes, led OU with four rebounds. That cannot happen again.

Up next

The first of five straight games for OU (15-5, 2-5) against ranked opponents in the books. A&M is checked off, here comes Vanderbilt. The Commodores have defeated Kentucky and Tennessee the last two Saturdays. Now? They’re coming to Norman, and they’re rested. Vandy had its mid-week bye this time around. Game is set for 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
