HUMBLE, Texas – Tory Blaylock‘s recruitment is a lot like his running style – decisive. The talented Atascocita back chose Oklahoma back on March 29 and since then has never seemed to waver for a moment. Following his team’s 35-7 win over Houston Lamar he caught up with SCOOPHD about his season-opener, a couple of touchdowns, and his relationship with the Sooners.

Since his decision the nation’s No. 21 running back says he and Oklahoma have continued to bond. And a big part of his comfort is just knowing the priority he is for the Sooners.

“It’s a huge weight off my shoulders, the recruiting process is crazy. It feels good knowing I’ve got people that really want me and it’s the best fit for me. And it’s great to find home,” Blaylock admits.

As he becomes increasingly connected with Demarco Murray he also is beginning to lay out the plans for his next trips to Norman.

“I should be catching a game pretty soon, we’ve got a few Thursday games so I’ll try and get up then,” he said. “I’m definitely going to the Texas game.”

More than a Bond with Murray for Sooners RB Commit

At the time of his decision Blaylock obviously knew Murray well and had started to build a connection with his future Sooners classmates. However, as time has gone on he has come to know them better and can see a connecting reality between each of them.

“(The 2025 class) has a big group chat, it’s like a brotherhood for real. We all reach out, check on each other, check how fall camp is going. They are all good guys, Oklahoma recruits all the same type of guys that you want to play with, the class is great,” he said.

Blaylock Has Big Goals for 2024

In his final year for Atascocita Blaylock has a number in his head, and it’s a big milestone for any running back.

“I want to go for 2,000 yards, that’s a big number but with the schemes we’ve got and a great O-line. I feel like it’s very reasonable and a good goal to have and strive for,” Blaylock said.

The Sooners pledge had a strong night with a pair of touchdowns – a 38-yard catch and run and a 69-yard sprint up the middle. But regardless of his numbers or how he scored he says he just enjoyed being back on the field.

“It feels good, I missed football. It’s great to be back with the guys. I made some big plays but there’s a lot to still work on and improve for next week. I’m going to watch some film, flush it, and get back for next week,” he said.

And did he have a favorite score on the night?

“It was for sure the big run, just because of the vision. [It was] outside zone, [I] stuck my foot in the ground and hit it backside. That’s something I’ve really been working on int he offseason. I’m really proud of that run.”
