Brent Venables wife, Julie, has surgery to remove cancerous tumor
Julie Venables, the wife of OU coach Brent Venables, is fighting cancer once again. Venables announced the devastating news on his coaches show Monday.
Julie was diagnosed with breast cancer in July of 2023. Venables announced in March 2024 that she was cancer-free. The cancer returned two months later in May. She had a tumor removed on Nov. 11, according to Venables.

“In May, she went through some testing and had some elevated blood work and we had it checked it out. And her cancer had returned,” Venables said on his show. “So we put together a really good game plan. Consulted with lots of different people and went to New York City. They’ve got a really good specialty hospital there and so for the last several months, she’s been going back and forth doing her chemo treatments there. And then last Monday, she had a surgery to remove her lymph nodes and a tumor.
“She’s doing amazing. Her spirit and her strength, nothing short of amazing. We’ve got a great team and great faith. It’s in God’s hands. A big part of the battle was her wanting just to fight and keep swinging and that’s what she’s doing.”
Venables and Julie have been married since 1997 and have four children.
