Former Ole Miss assistant basketball coach Brock Morris was officially introduced as part of OU’s staff Saturday afternoon.

Morris has been with the team for the last month, but Saturday’s announcement makes it officially official at Oklahoma.

“I’m very impressed with the talent, chemistry and culture in place,” said Morris on social media Saturday.

The NCAA increased the number of men’s and women’s basketball assistant coaches by two. Morris will also serve as director of player personnel.

Morris is the fourth assistant coach for Porter Moser, joining Emanuel Dildy, Ryan Humphrey and Armon Gates.

He brings 10-plus years of coaching and recruiting experience to Norman. He has aided in the development of seven All-Americans, 26 all-conference honorees, 18 all-tournament team selections, three conference players of the year, two conference tournament MVPs.

“Brock brings tons of experience to our program, having coached and recruited in the SEC,” said Moser in a press release. “His SEC and head coaching experience will be a great addition to our staff. Brock has a great basketball mind and I look forward to him helping our program excel this season.”

Morris joins the Sooners after one season as an Ole Miss assistant coach. He helped the Rebels land a quality 2022 class and was instrumental in building a top-25 2023 class.

Morris’s previous coaching stops include serving as the Head Coach of Daytona State College, Assistant Coach at South Alabama, Assistant Coach at the College of Southern Idaho, Director of Basketball Operations at Louisiana, and Graduate Assistant at the University of Alabama.

“We are excited to join the staff and work with coach Moser, one of the premier coaches in the country,” said Morris in the release. “Oklahoma has a rich basketball tradition, and we look forward to being a part of the OU family.”

Dildy gets promotion

The Morris hiring comes just a couple of weeks after Dildy was given a promotion to associate head coach by Moser.

Dildy has been Moser’s right-hand man the first two seasons in Norman. He has held down the fort and done a tremendous job bringing elite high school talent to the Sooners.

He proved his value last year when there was a point of time when Dildy was the only assistant coach for Moser. Dildy kept the team together, attacked the portal and added top-tier high school guys.

Dildy is also credited with the development of the wing players at OU.

Groves, Sherfield getting their chance

It was assumed, but now it’s confirmed. Former OU players Tanner Groves and Grant Sherfield will get their NBA Summer League opportunities.

Groves will play for the Oklahoma City Thunder. Sherfield, meanwhile, will be with the Phoenix Suns when the League begins later this week.
