OU basketball is on the hunt for a new strength and conditioning coach. Head coach Porter Moser almost went an entire season without trying to fill a staff position.

But after nine seasons at OU, strength and conditioning coach Bryce Daub is ready to see what else is out there. Daub announced Wednesday he is leaving OU to take a position with the Charlotte Hornets in the NBA.

“The University of Oklahoma has been my home for the past nine years, and while I’ll always be a Sooner, it’s time for a new adventure,” said Daub on Instagram. “I’m thrilled to announce that I’ve accepted the position of Director of Athletic Performance with the Charlotte Hornets.”

Daub began his tenure at OU in the 2015-16 season. That was the Final Four season with Buddy Hield and company, obviously. And he was one of the few names still remaining for Moser that were also around under former head coach Lon Kruger.

Daub was instrumental in the design and creation of the Griffin Family Performance Center, helping OU utilize the 18,000 square feet with state-of-the-art equipment and performance tools.

Before joining the Sooners, Daub spent the previous four seasons as the strength and conditioning coach for the University of Oregon men’s basketball program. Oregon had participated in the NCAA Tournament each of the last three seasons in Daub’s tenure. It won at least one postseason game each of those years.

It has been a common theme for Moser. No matter what has happened in the previous season, a staff member has left the program. There have been years where it’s multiple guys. Or years where the timing has been absolutely terrible.

This, though, a little more reasonable. And a little more manageable. It’s, obviously, a great opportunity for Daub. And now Moser is back to search for a new strength and conditioning coach.
