Cortez Mills Locked In with Sooners?
For two weeks now there has been real consternation about the situation involving elite Oklahoma wide receiver commitment Cortez Mills. The 6-foot-0.5, 165-pound pass-catcher committed to Oklahoma on July 1 and since then had seemed fairly in-step with the Sooners staff. Then reports came out that he’d be attending the Colorado-Nebraska game nine days ago.
The immediate response was that Mills would not make the trip but when he eventually did, it seemed that the Sooners and Mills were in real trouble. In fact it seemed that the Sooners policy about visits from committed players was something many around Lincoln, Neb. were counting on helping them reel in the South Florida star.
Then on Monday evening, after a lot of speculation but little hard and fast news, Mills seemed to put the rumors to rest.
Mills’s tweet would seem to indicate he’s ‘locked in’ with the Sooners again.
It’s an outcome that seems to flow opposite of the speculation that existed but Mills has seemed to build some bond with the Oklahoma 2025 class – namely fellow summer receiver commitment Marcus Harris. A big part of both of those commitments could be laid at the feet of Sooners receivers coach Emmett Jones someone that Mills has talked about repeatedly through his recruitment.

“Coach Jones is a coach I believe in. I talked to the receivers about him and they love him. He is a tough coach, but I really relate to him on and off the field. Coach Jones will push me, develop me and he wants what us best for his players,” Mills said at the time of his commitment.
Mills has been rumored to be looking at further visits, we’ll continue to track that possibility but the Sooners are, obviously, hoping this is the final flirtation.
