The Crimson Countdown is officially on for the 2023 Oklahoma football season. It’s the second season under head coach Brent Venables and expectations are high once again. The Sooners are looking to rebound from the uncharacteristic 6-7 season in 2022.

Every day as we get closer to kickoff, SoonerScoop.com will count down the days with you. Starting with No. 99 and working our way to No. 0, we’ll be there every step of the way.

Crimson Countdown: No. 11 Davis Beville

2022 stats: Played in five games (starting one) going 37-for-62 for 339 yards, a touchdown and interception.

2023 outlook:

Let bygones be bygones. It’s a new year for Davis Beville after being thrust into action last year making his first career start in a Sooner uniform on a day most Oklahoma fans would like to forget. It uhhhhh didn’t go well — to the tune of a 49-0 shellacking at the Cotton Bowl against Texas in which he only completed six passes for 38 yards. Sorry, we won’t dig further.

Five-star quarterback Jackson Arnold’s arrival figures to place Beville in a snap away from being a snap away situation. But you never know when you’re a couple injuries away from having to command a huddle.

And what’s better than a redemption story in college athletics?

2023 quarterback outlook:

Oklahoma’s quarterback room is much stronger this season than last. Dillon Gabriel has his sights set on climbing the all-time college passing yards list where he could finish top 10 by season’s end. Jackson Arnold stands to be the future of the program waiting in the wings. Davis Beville, General Booty– one of the great names in college athletics- and Jacob Switzer fill out the rest of Jeff Lebby’s room.
