The Crimson Countdown is officially on for the 2024 Oklahoma football season. Fans have been waiting for what feels like forever with this one. The Sooners are finally and officially joining the SEC.

The 2023 season was a rebound one for head coach Brent Venables, getting the program back to its standard. OU went 10-3 in Venables’ second season, now it’s time for year No. 3.

Every day as we get closer to kickoff, SoonerScoop.com will count down the days with you. Starting with No. 99 and working our way to No. 0, we’ll be there every step of the way.

Crimson Countdown: No. 17 Jaquaize Pettaway

2023 stats: Played in nine games with 11 receptions for 70 yards and 10 yards on one carry

2024 outlook: It would make a lot of sense to think Jaquaize Pettaway enters the season looking to build upon a solid freshman season. It feels as though the sophomore to be is closer to the ‘next up/breakout season ahead’ tier than the ‘still needs time to develop’ tier. Look for Pettaway to be a contributor at wide receiver this season. How much? That’s the million dollar question.

2024 Wide Receiver Outlook:

There’s no offensive position with more depth than wide receiver. While the Sooners lose leading receiver Drake Stoops to the NFL, they return everyone else. Jalil Farooq and Andrel Anthony are both back, but both missed most of the spring with injuries. Nic Anderson, who led the team in touchdowns last season, is also back. But the X factor for the Sooners might be Purdue transfer Deion Burks, who showed everyone he might be the best weapon OU has during the Spring Game.
