Crimson Countdown: No. 26 Kani Walker
2023 stats: 24 tackles, 4 pass breakups, interception, forced fumble.
2024 outlook: Walker started three games for the Sooners last season, but played in 10. He was primarily a backup behind Gentry Williams and Woodi Washington. Walker has been a solid player for OU, transferring to Oklahoma from Louisville in 2022. And after a strong finish to the 2023 season, he’s vying for a starting role in 2024.
2024 cornerback outlook
The cornerback room is another unit that has more depth than usual for the Sooners. Junior Gentry Williams returns for his third season and is expected to start at one spot if he’s healthy. There are several players though pushing Williams for one of the two start spots, including new San Diego State transfer Dez Malone and Louisville transfer Kani Walker, who is now in his third year in Norman. Young guys Jacobe Johnson and Makari Vickers have also been impressive, hoping to have a bigger role in 2024.
