The Crimson Countdown is officially on for the 2024 Oklahoma football season. Fans have been waiting for what feels like forever with this one. The Sooners are finally and officially joining the SEC.

The 2023 season was a rebound one for head coach Brent Venables, getting the program back to its standard. OU went 10-3 in Venables’ second season, now it’s time for year No. 3.

Every day as we get closer to kickoff, SoonerScoop.com will count down the days with you. Starting with No. 99 and working our way to No. 0, we’ll be there every step of the way.

Crimson Countdown: No. 26 Zion Ragins

2023 stats: N/A.

2024 outlook:

You look at that weight, and you wonder how Ragins will fit in. OU has had a history of doing very big things with so-called little guys. Everybody is hoping Ragins will be the next in line.

Ragins’ recruitment was all about his speed. You’d see his senior highlights, and one game after another, it was a jaw-dropping touchdown because of that speed.

Put Ragins in this offense with Jackson Arnold running the show and see what happens. This season will be key for Ragins to learn how to develop. Maybe he’ll get a chance, but he should be setting himself up for 2025, if nothing else.

2024 wide receiver outlook

There’s no offensive position with more depth than wide receiver. While the Sooners lose leading receiver Drake Stoops to the NFL, they return everyone else. Jalil Farooq and Andrel Anthony are both back, but both missed most of the spring with injuries. Nic Anderson, who led the team in touchdowns last season, is also back. And Jayden Gibson looks to have a bigger role next year after a strong spring. But the X factor for the Sooners might be Purdue transfer Deion Burks, who showed everyone he might be the best weapon OU has during the Spring Game.
