Crimson Countdown: No. 35 Liam Evans
2023 stats: NA
2024 outlook: From Moore High School, Evans comes to OU hoping to be the Sooners’ future kicker someday. That likely won’t be in 2024, as seniors Tyler Keltner and Zach Schmit are expected to compete for the starting job. But Evans was one of the more talented kickers in the country in the 2024 class and impressed the coaching staff in the spring. Still, for Evans to see the field this season, he will have to have an incredible fall camp.
2024 special teams outlook
Special teams figures to be one of the more varied possible outcomes on the roster. Oklahoma returns starters at punter, kicker, and long snapper. But after a mixed bag of results in 2023 the Sooners are now with a new position coach in Doug Deakin from San Diego State. Punter Luke Elzinga seems a safe bet as does long snapper Ben Anderson but the battle at kicker between incumbent Schmit and Keltner could be pivotal to the team’s success in what figures to be a season of tight games.
