Every day as we get closer to kickoff, SoonerScoop.com will count down the days with you. Starting with No. 99 and working our way to No. 0, we’ll be there every step of the way.
Crimson Countdown – No. 39 Peter Schuh
2022 stats: Played in two games on special teams
2023 outlook: The fact Peter Schuh is playing college football is nothing short of a miracle. In kindergarten Schuh was diagnosed with Celiac disease, but went into cardiac arrest with pulmonary failure during a procedure to fix it. At the age of 10 he was diagnosed with eosinophilic esophagatisis.
Trials and tribulations that formed the walk-on defensive back into who he is today. A player that Oklahoma head coach Brent Venables offered as a preferred walk-on while at Clemson.

Today, now healthy for many years, Schuh is carving out a path in the Oklahoma football program as a back-up defensive back and special teams contributor. Schuh spent the beginning of the summer back home on the east coast serving a micro-internship at MLB Network with Matt Vasgersian.
2023 safety outlook:
Much improved. A maligned unit over the last few years has started to take shape under safeties coach Brandon Hall. Billy Bowman and Key Lawrence return to the fold with prized five-star recruit Peyton Bowen looking make an immediate impact. Reggie Pearson joins the program through the transfer portal via Big 12 neighbor Texas Tech and should be a player that contributes. Robert Spears-Jennings flashed as a freshman and is expected to take the next step in his second season with the program.
