The Crimson Countdown is officially on for the 2024 Oklahoma football season. Fans have been waiting for what feels like forever with this one. The Sooners are finally and officially joining the SEC.

The 2023 season was a rebound one for head coach Brent Venables, getting the program back to its standard. OU went 10-3 in Venables’ second season, now it’s time for year No. 3.

Every day as we get closer to kickoff, SoonerScoop.com will count down the days with you. Starting with No. 99 and working our way to No. 0, we’ll be there every step of the way.

Crimson Countdown: No. 48 Jocelyn Malaska

2023 stats: Missed the entire season with injury, played two seasons at Utah.

2024 outlook:

You want a sneaky transfer portal addition? Malaska definitely checks that box. It truly felt like 2023 was about to be a big moment for Malaska with the Utes before the injury.

Instead of making his mark at Utah, he’s coming back home. The Bethany, Okla., native, has returned to the Sooner State. And is betting on himself, returning as a walk-on.

Interesting watching him in the spring and seeing how good, how big he looks. It goes to show, again, what OU is attempting to build. Just keep stacking. Malaska is OK with it and ready to get to work.

2024 cornerback outlook

The cornerback room is another unit that has more depth than usual for the Sooners. Junior Gentry Williams returns for his third season and is expected to start at one spot if he’s healthy. There are several players though pushing Williams for one of the two start spots, including new San Diego State transfer Dez Malone and Louisville transfer Kani Walker, who is now in his third year in Norman. Young guys Jacobe Johnson and Makari Vickers have also been impressive, hoping to have a bigger role in 2024.
