Crimson Countdown: No. 6 Deion Burks
The Crimson Countdown is officially on for the 2024 Oklahoma football season. Fans have been waiting for what feels like forever with this one. The Sooners are finally and officially joining the SEC.
The 2023 season was a rebound one for head coach Brent Venables, getting the program back to its standard. OU went 10-3 in Venables’ second season, now it’s time for year No. 3.
Every day as we get closer to kickoff, SoonerScoop.com will count down the days with you. Starting with No. 99 and working our way to No. 0, we’ll be there every step of the way.

Crimson Countdown: No. 6 Deion Burks
2023 stats: 47 receptions for 629 yards and seven touchdowns in 12 games (at Purdue).
2024 outlook: It’s hard to imagine a player on Oklahoma’s 2024 roster who has much more enthusiasm surrounding his 2024 season than Burks. The big-time receiver has been listed on several All-SEC preseason lists and went off in Oklahoma’s spring game. His blend of speed, agility, and just general competitive style has all the hallmarks of a huge pairing with Jackson Arnold.
In short? It would be hard for Burks’s outlook to be much higher.
2024 wide receiver outlook
There’s no offensive position with more depth than wide receiver. While the Sooners lose leading receiver Drake Stoops to the NFL, they return everyone else. Jalil Farooq and Andrel Anthony are both back, but both missed most of the spring with injuries. Nic Anderson, who led the team in touchdowns last season, is also back. And Jayden Gibson looks to have a bigger role next year after a strong spring. But the X factor for the Sooners might be Purdue transfer Deion Burks, who showed everyone he might be the best weapon OU has during the Spring Game.
