Crimson Countdown: No. 76 Jacob Sexton
The Crimson Countdown is officially on for the 2023 Oklahoma football season. It’s the second season under head coach Brent Venables and expectations are high once again. The Sooners are looking to rebound from the uncharacteristic 6-7 season in 2022.
Every day as we get closer to kickoff, SoonerScoop.com will count down the days with you. Starting with No.98 and working our way to No. 0, we’ll be there every step of the way.
Crimson Countdown: No. 76 Jacob Sexton
2022 stats: Played in 10 of 13 games at left tackle, made first career start in Cheez It Bowl versus Florida State.
2023 outlook: Barring any kind of setback during rehab from a knee injury sustained in the Cheez It Bowl, sophomore offensive tackle Jacob Sexton is expected to be a key player on Bill Bedenbaugh’s offensive line. As Oklahoma looks to replace both tackle positions this fall, it’s Sexton along with Stanford transfer Walter Rouse and returning contributor Tyler Guyton who are seen as the heirs to the two spots left by Anton Harrison and Wanya Morris.

Sexton is a mountain of a human standing at 6-foot-6, 312 pounds. Off the field he could be characterized as a gentle giant, but his film is far from anything soft. His nasty streak screams of a player that embodies what Bill Bedenbaugh is looking for. Oklahoma will count on Sexton to bounce back from the ACL injury to be a key player at tackle in 2023 whether that be as a starter or a rotational guy. His best football is ahead of him.
2023 Offensive Tackle Outlook
Oddly enough, it’s probably Sexton’s injury that made Stanford offensive tackle Walter Rouse a priority in the transfer portal. Rouse, Guyton and Sexton are three good options at the tackle position following the departures of Wanya Morris and Anton Harrison. You can also throw true freshman Cayden Green into the mix to add depth as well. Overall, the position doesn’t have the level of experience you’d hope for, outside of Rouse. But there is a ton of upside at the position. Tyler Guyton is the name to know when talking about Oklahoma at the offensive tackle position. He’s primed to be a breakout star in 2023.
