2024 outlook: To say Michael Hawkins has made an early impression would be an understatement. The Sooners legacy, son of former cornerback Michael Hawkins, has been impressive throughout preseason camp. So much of an impression that it’s not out of the question he has possibly established himself as the Sooners back-up behind Jackson Arnold. With Arnold and Hawkins around for the next few years the future at quarterback is rather comfortable for offensive coordinators Seth Littrell and Joe Jon Finley. Hawkins has a chance to be a star. Patience may be required.
2024 Quarterback Outlook:
There’s a new QB1 in Norman and his name is Jackson Arnold. The sophomore takes over for Dillon Gabriel, now at Oregon. And the expectations couldn’t be higher for the former five-star. OU’s season will largely hinder on how well Arnold performs. But the Sooners have more than Arnold, as the room has totally reformed in recent years. Former Texas, Nebraska and FAU quarterback Casey Thompson transferred to OU to be a savvy, veteran backup. While freshmen Michael Hawkins and Brendan Zurbrugg are also competing for roles next season.
