Danny Stutsman leads OU honors in first SEC season
Predicted to be among the conference’s best, and OU linebacker Danny Stutsman was indeed just that this season.
Stutsman was named to the All-SEC First Team on Tuesday afternoon. He is joined by defensive end R Mason Thomas for the Second Team and Third Team honors for safety Billy Bowman and long snapper Ben Anderson.
Selections were made by the league’s head coaches, who were not permitted to vote for their own players.
Stutsman, who is also a finalist for the Butkus Award, ranks fourth in the SEC and 24th in the country with his team-high 109 tackles. Stutsman has 8.0 tackles for loss, one sack and three QB hurries. He had double-digit tackles four times and at least 15 tackles three times this season, and has led the Sooners in tackles in eight of 12 games. Stutsman was phenomenal in a loss at Missouri, with a career-high 19 stops.
Thomas ranks fourth in the SEC and 17th nationally with his 9.0 sacks. He also leads the Sooners with his 11.5 tackles for loss and 11 QB hurries. Thomas also forced two fumbles and had two fumble recoveries, including a touchdown at LSU. Thomas was at his best when the team needed him. Six of Thomas’ 9.0 sacks this season came in the fourth quarter and with OU protecting leads.
