Dillon Gabriel enters transfer portal, says goodbye to OU
OU senior quarterback Dillon Gabriel has officially entered the transfer portal.
Gabriel, who has spent the last two seasons in Norman, somewhat surprisingly entered the portal on Monday. He has been one of the best quarterbacks in the country this season and many expected him to go pro following his fifth season of playing college football.
Instead, Gabriel will play his sixth year somewhere else. Gabriel announced the decision on social media Monday morning.

The past 2 years here at OU as a Sooner I have made memories with friends and family that remind me how blessed I am. I have been able to play football for an amazing group of coaches and alongside men who have become my brothers. More than anything I have grown in faith and love. I appreciate and cherish these memories and relationships forever.
My time in the palace was a game time experience I will never forget. Sooner Nation, you held me accountable and I am better for it.
Coach BV, my coaches, and the football staff, I am grateful for your care, knowledge and insight. Most of all, thanks for your faith in me and the opportunity to lead and be a member of OU’s Team 128 and 129.
Sincerely,
Dillon
Gabriel finishes his time at Oklahoma as one of college football’s most prolific passers, ranking eighth in total passing yards with 14,865 and eighth in passing touchdowns with 125. He could become the all-time leader in both if he plays another season. While at OU, he threw for 6,828 yards, 55 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. He also rushed for 688 yards and 18 touchdowns.
During his time at OU, Gabriel was considered a pivotal piece of the Brent Venables era. When Venables arrived at Oklahoma, the Sooners were without a quarterback and Gabriel arrived at the perfect time. And he helped the Sooners a to 10-win season in his final year. He will forever have a place in Sooner history, with several memorable moments, including orchestrating a game-winning drive to beat Texas this year.
Now, with Gabriel leaving, it’s officially the beginning of the Jackson Arnold era in Norman.
