Dillon Gabriel still firmly in Heisman race, with fifth-best odds
OU quarterback Dillon Gabriel is still firmly in the Heisman Trophy race after Saturday’s 31-29 over UCF.
Saturday wasn’t Gabriel’s best performance, going 25-of-38 for 253 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. But Gabriel and the Sooners were able to win, keeping him in the hunt for the Heisman.
“Definitely was a personal one because I played there,” Gabriel said Saturday after beating UCF. “It’s part of my journey that I’ll never forget. At the end of the day, it wasn’t about me it was about us as a team, finding a way to win and going 1-0. Ultimately getting to 7-0. But getting better. That’s something we’ll have to do for sure.”
According to FanDuel, Gabriel has the fifth-best odds (+1200) to win. Here’s who leads the way.
- Michigan QB J.J. McCarthy +250
- Washington QB Michael Penix Jr. +300
- LSU QB Jayden Daniels +300
- Florida State QB Jordan Travis +800
- Oklahoma QB Dillon Gabriel +1200
The one thing Gabriel has going for him is a bad weekend from a couple of others. Penix was the favorite entering Saturday, but had three bad turnovers in a close win over Arizona State, dropping him to second. And USC quarterback and last year’s Heisman winner Caleb Williams might be out of the race after the Trojans dropped their second consecutive game. Williams did not throw a touchdown pass in the loss to Utah, ending a 21-game streak.
