Michael Fasusi reaction: Happy Birthday, OU offensive line coach Bill Bedenbaugh
The day OU recruiting fans had been waiting for, and it delivered. Despite all of the ridiculous success offensive line coach Bill Bedenbaugh has had, never secured the commitment of a five-star offensive lineman.
Until Wednesday.
It was indeed a happy birthday for Bedenbaugh as Lewisville (Texas) High tackle Michael Fasusi committed to OU. Fasusi picked the Sooners instead of Texas, Texas A&M and a slew of others.
What did this moment mean? Come along for the ride.
Akinkunmi the magic touch?
Maybe, just maybe let Daniel Akinkunmi play host to a targeted recruit. Akinkunmi was the official visit host for Ryan Fodje and Fasusi.
And the two top-10 tackles are committed to OU. Mission accomplished.
All-in chip
Are you all-in or not? That’s the question head coach Brent Venables asks the recruits all the time. This post from wide receivers coach Emmett Jones shows you how long this recruitment has been going on.
Some go days, weeks. Fasusi has been an OU target for years. Plural, years. But OU was there the entire time, and Wednesday was the culmination of everything gone right.
Happy Birthday, Bill
Was a pretty good day for Bedenbaugh. Pro Football Focus revealed former pupils Tyler Guyton (Cowboys) and Walter Rouse (Vikings) have been the two best rookie tackles in the preseason.

And then he got a shoutout from one of his former guys in Gabe Ikard. It is true, he is absolutely #5StarBill on this afternoon.
Aug. 21 a special date for Fasusi
Stars aligned for this one? Not only is Aug. 21 the birthday for Bedenbaugh, but we learned it’s an incredibly special day for Fasusi and his family.
It was five years ago to the day when Fasusi’s family came to the United States. His Nigerian heritage proudly displayed in his On3 commitment edit.
Movin’ on up
One commitment doesn’t mean that much? Try again when it comes to OU and Fasusi. The moment he put the OU hat on, boom. The Sooners went from No. 15 in the recruiting rankings to No. 11. Venables and crew do not slow down.
