Forward Kuol Atak commits to Sooners
If there’s one thing the Sooners basketball program is getting right under head coach Porter Moser, it’s in recruiting.
Moser and staff landed another big one with Fort Worth (Texas) Haltom forward Kuol Atak announcing his commitment to Oklahoma on Tuesday.
Atak was down to a final six with OU, Oklahoma State, TCU and Texas in that group. He becomes OU’s second commitment for the 2024 class. San Diego State and SMU rounded out his final choices.
“Naturally, at 6-foot-9, he has excellent positional size with great length,” said On3’s Jamie Shaw last month. “He is a great set shooter with a quick release. Other aspects of his game are still coming around, but his ability to find open space and get his shot off has been a uniquely consistent weapon.”
Whether it was Milos Uzan and Otega Oweh for the 2022 class or Kaden Cooper for the last class, recruiting has absolutely not been an issue for Moser in Norman.

Atak is another example of Moser being able to bring in top-100 prospects. Atak is No. 106 overall in the industry composite. But On3 likes Atak a whole lot more. He is the No. 3 recruit in Texas and No. 71 overall.
Atak joins local product Dayton Forsythe in the 2024 class. Forsythe, from Dale (Okla.) High, has helped the Pirates to back-to-back state championships. Forsythe is a three-star prospect who continues to be ranked higher as he gets evaluated more.
Moser has been able to land elite guards, so it was important to show he can bring in some size and forwards as well. We’ll see how Jacolb Cole fares as a true freshman coming up, provided he can stay healthy.
With Atak in the fold, it’s showing how Moser and the Sooners can attract bigger guys and not just perimeter targets.
