Hannah Coor working her way back for OU softball

If there’s any player that deserves an injury-free season for OU softball, it’s Hannah Coor. Her back issues well-chronicled, the opening weekend saw another injury for Coor.
She did not play for the Sooners over the weekend in Waco, Texas, against Hofstra and Baylor. But head coach Patty Gasso sounded confident Coor should be able to return sooner than later.
“Nothing is broken, which is good,” Gasso said. “It was just a really hard sprain, it’s been bruised. She’s in a boot but I think she’s going to get out of the boot this week. She’s doing rehab at least twice a day. Not too far. She’s definitely going to be back in commission. I just don’t know how soon, but the boot is about to come off, so that’s good news.”
OU is off to a 10-0 start that includes five run-rule victories and two five-inning perfect games. OU is now set for three straight weekends at Love’s Field.
Originally scheduled for Thursday-Sunday, it is now a doubleheader Saturday and Sunday, and the final game Monday.

Softball bringing in the money
Gasso was asked about how well the OU softball program is doing financially and the significance of standing on its own.
“We’re home for the next three weeks. I’ve never done that in my career here. We’ve always gone out to California, Arizona and maybe play one weekend at home and then we start conference. So this is new for us. But the more we can play at home, the more we can create that revenue. So I’m excited about it. Every game, from what I understand, is already a sell out with just walk-up tickets or standalone tickets.
“It’s been wonderful. I believe we’re playing Mississippi State at the Hall of Fame. If the weather is right, and the day and the time is right, we could get 8,000 people there. It’s been a dream come true, honestly. When we were at Marita, you see everyone line up, I always felt horrible. Like, all these people are not gonna get in the game. They’re standing outside, something doesn’t feel right about this. Now we’re getting to the place where people still can’t get inside. Maybe one day we’ll even add a few more grand stands or whatever we can do, but if we can help the university make money and help our athletic department, we certainly wanna do that.
“I don’t want women’s sports to be blamed for all the problems, because sometimes that used to be the way it was. That’s why male sports are failing because women are taking the money. I want to do our part. I want to feel that from our side.”
