Hoops Report: Point of no return for OU basketball?
No OU basketball fan in their right mind would say they’re pleased with how the last couple of weeks have gone. The season? OK, not so terrible. But the last three games have been a rough watch, bordering on embarrassment.
It’s not just losing by 28 at Auburn, 18 at home vs. Tennessee and 24 at Missouri. It’s the fact there hasn’t been a minute in the second half of any of those three contests where OU was within 10 points.
Frustrating, to say the least. So here’s OU, once again, hovering around that bubble picture. Either Last Four In or among the First Four Out, your mileage may vary.
Now what head coach Porter Moser and company did do was rack up quality non-conference wins. However, none of that is going to help in March if you can’t start to pick it up in February.
So what in the world has happened? Trying to break it down, understand the madness in this week’s Hoops Report roundtable with Bob Przybylo, Eddie Radosevich and George Stoia.
Despite all the shaking of the head, OU still has seven Quad 1 and Quad 2 victories. OU still doesn’t have a bad loss to its resume. But the schedule is no picnic.

The Sooners get a brief break from the chaos, hosting LSU on Saturday night. The Tigers have lost seven straight and are 12-12 overall and 1-10 in the SEC.
After that? Assuming OU can get by, it’s five more straight games against ranked opponents. That would make it 10 of 11 games against top 25 foes.
Where does the fault lie? How different would this team be with a Brandon Garrison at center? Is it Moser’s fault? Portal failure? Administration to blame?
The 13-0 start is long gone. Here is 16-8 and trying to fix it before it all goes south once and for all.
Come along for the ride, if you can stomach the process.
