Jackson Arnold, Danny Stutsman, Billy Bowman, Bauer Sharp named OU Week 1 captains
The first set of OU captains have been revealed. Three names that, yea, we all sort of expect. And one big surprise.
It’s SEC media days déjà vu with quarterback Jackson Arnold, linebacker Danny Stutsman and safety Billy Bowman all getting the captain nod.
But the fourth? Tight end transfer Bauer Sharp gets the honor. The four will represent OU when Temple comes to Norman on Friday evening.
It is expected captains will rotate on a weekly basis just like it did in the first two seasons under Brent Venables.
TE Bauer Sharp
Progress during camp?
“I’m feeling great. I say this all the time. I give it to God every day. He’s in control. I don’t know what the outcome is, don’t know when the outcome will be. I take it day-by-day and trust my teammates, trust my team that we’ll get it done.” – Sharp

S Billy Bowman
What does it mean for him to be in his last season?
“He knows it’s his last year so it’s very emotional. He just cares a lot about this team. He’s showing it to everybody that he cares. He’s pushing everybody else because he cares so much. He just wants to go out with a bang.” – Robert Spears-Jennings
LB Danny Stutsman
Having Stutsman return for another season?
“Oh yeah, definitely. He brings that leader mentality, that pushing, that edge that pushed. He will bring out the best in you, and that’s the best thing about Danny, is your gonna get his best and he’s gonna motivate you to do your best.” – Kip Lewis
QB Jackson Arnold
Arnold ready for the starting OU QB1 challenge?
“I’m excited to watch these guys go out and play, coaches and everybody get off the field and get into game week. Put together a really good game plan and watch these guys take it to the field. There’s going to be several things that go our way and there’s going to be several that don’t, and you guys get to write about all of it. We’ve got to identify the things we’ve got to get better. And by the end of the year, we should be a really improved football team. That’s the goal, that’s the vision. If we’re doing things the right way, if things go our way that means keeping guys healthy, all those types of things. And our guys stay hungry, committed and driven. We’ve got to motivate them and hold them accountable to do that. I love where I think Jackson can take this football team.” – head coach Brent Venables
