OU junior wide receiver Jayden Gibson suffered a knee injury in practice Tuesday and will undergo an MRI to determine the severity of the injury, according to SoonerScoop.com sources.

Gibson is entering his third season with the Sooners. He was expected to have an increased role this season, after playing in all 13 games last year. In 2023, he totaled 15 receptions for 387 yards and five touchdowns. Many anticipated Gibson was poised for a breakout season due to the way he ended 2023. That is now in question after Gibson was injured on the fifth practice of fall camp.

Prior to Gibson’s injury, OU had a couple of receivers battling injuries. Seniors Andrel Anthony and Jalil Farooq have both been attempting to return from leg injuries. Anthony tore his ACL in the Texas game a year ago and has been running routes for the first time this fall. Farooq injured his foot in the spring and has been a full participant in fall camp with the expectation to return for the season. Now with Gibson hurt for an unknown period of time, Oklahoma’s talented receiver room will need some young guys to step up.

The Sooners do have plenty of options with Purdue transfer Deion Burks and junior Nic Anderson leading the way. It also has some talented freshmen in Zion Kearney and Ivan Carreon, who each arrived in the spring. But if Gibson is out for an extended period of time, it certainly is a blow to OU’s receiving corps.
