Jayden Jackson Commits to Sooners
You can never say never in recruiting. Sooners fans are well aware of that. For the most part, though, it’s usually learning about someone believed to be committing to OU going somewhere else.
Oklahoma got to be on the other side, the fun side this time around. Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy defensive tackle Jayden Jackson announced his commitment to the Sooners on Thursday afternoon.
Never mind a week or a month, even 48 hours before his choice, it never appeared as though OU was legitimately in the hunt.
Between Ohio State, Texas and local favorites Miami and Florida, there was nothing to suggest the Sooners had actually done enough with Jackson when he visited in June.
Turns out, though, head coach Brent Venables and defensive tackles coach Todd Bates were able to make some magic happen.
Jackson was an interesting case. He wasn’t an official visitor for #ChampUBBQ weekend. Instead, he showed up a couple of days after, sandwiched between other official visits.

Coming out of the Norman trip, you knew OU had done everything right. But there was still that feeling of it wasn’t going to be enough.
This is a huge one for the Sooners because Bates had been searching for that initial defensive tackle pledge. OU is attempting to land its greatest defensive line class ever, and defensive tackle is obviously a priority as the Sooners hit the SEC.
Jackson, just under 6-foot-2 and 300 pounds, is ranked as a high three-star prospect by On3 and in the industry composite rankings. He becomes the seventh commitment for the Sooners since the BBQ weekend. Jackson is the 13th pledge for OU’s 2024 class.
But as has been uttered multiple times in recent weeks, it needs to be said again. July is still going to bring more good news for Venables and OU. Jackson is just another key piece to the puzzle.
