What Does Jayden Jackson's Starting Mean?
This week’s board chat was loaded with tons of conversation of not only recruiting but, unsurprisingly, the Sooners season opener.
Why Isn’t Floyd Boucard Getting More Notoriety?
I think because there hasn’t been a lot of exposure to him. His tape is outstanding but he’s doing it against very muted competition. I’m not saying it’s irrelevant, just that you have to acknowledge he isn’t facing elite guys. And that’s fine if you’re going to camps and being present and dominating when you do face big-time guys but he hasn’t done a lot of that so far.
The lack of presence isn’t just about how he performs, it’s also about seeing how he measures up physically, how is his frame, can he carry more weight? Should he lighten up a bit? There’s just stuff you can get a feel for. Playing at Miami Central -an absolute powerhouse- I think people get the opportunity to really see what the Sooners commit is about.
On tape, I see a lot I like but I would like to see him up close just to figure him out a bit because while his offer list is good I’m not sure all of those offers were pushing that hard at the end of the race. It begs the question…why not?
Is Jayden Jackson Being Ahead of David Stone a Concern?
Jackson’s body type is the biggest thing pushing him ahead. And frankly it’s something we’ve talked about for a while as something that should be expected. It’s much easier for him to stand up an offensive lineman. He’s a fireplug that is going to get under your pads and make it hard to move him around at all. Stone is a longer and more angular guy that is going to win with agility and technique. As he gets better with pad level, gets stronger at the point…he’ll probably end up the better player but it’s not a huge shock that Jackson is making the biggest impact from the outset for the Sooners.

Why do Recruiting Sites Focus on the NFL Draft Rather than NFL Productivity as a Measuring Stick?
It’s easier to measure against the NFL draft because front offices are gauging the same metrics, potential to be elite, etc.
I mean the things people get mad about when guys aren’t ranked highly enough…’look at how good this guy is, puts up numbers all the time’ is the same argument people would make for Dillon Gabriel…but there’s a reason he came back. The NFL told him he’s not projected as an NFL starter/early round pick.
Beyond all of that, how does one gauge productivity with any sort of real measurement? I mean is a receiver at Oklahoma legitimately better than the guy at Michigan or did he just play in a more productive offense?
The draft is a cold, hard, and unbiased gauge. No team is drafting the guy they like – it’s the guy who can help them the most.
