No. 2 South Carolina destroys No. 13 OU women's basketball
The OU women’s basketball team had its worst performance of the season on Sunday. The No. 13 Sooners fell on the road to No. 2 South Carolina 101-60.
Oklahoma fell behind early, trailing by 28-9 after the first quarter. The Sooners never recovered as they were outscored in every quarter. South Carolina controlled the game’s pace, forcing 22 Sooner turnovers while the Gamecocks only had six.
Center Raegan Beers led all scorers with 23 points and eight rebounds. Beers was one of the only bright spots for the Sooners, with Skylar Vann adding 13 and Reyna Scott adding 10. Payton Verhulst, one of OU’s top scorers this season, was held to just three points. On Thursday against Missouri, Verhulst scored a career-high 38.
There is no shame in losing to South Carolina on the road. The defending champions are considered to be the favorite to win the national title again this season. But coach Jennie Baranczyk is surely disappointed by how lopsided the game was.

She and the Sooners were looking forward to this game, hoping to prove they were one of the best teams in the country.
“This is also the difference of being in the SEC and not being in the SEC… You’re going to play the best team in the country,” Baranczyk said on Thursday. “The best program in the country. And I don’t care if there’s a number two (in the rankings), we all know, right? They’re a storied team. They’re a very deep team and you go see where you’re at. You go see where you’re at mentally. You go see where you’re at in terms of X’s and O’s. You see where you’re team’s at.”
