Offensive lineman Eugene Brooks commits to Sooners

It has been a fun couple of months for Sooners recruiting, but there was one position that hadn’t joined the party yet.
Offensive line had been eerily quiet for Oklahoma but not anymore. Chatsworth (Calif.) Sierra Canyon interior offensive lineman Eugene Brooks announced his commitment to OU on Tuesday.
The Sooners and head coach Brent Venables have been racking up one big-time commitment after another. One top-tier national name after another. But despite all the success of offensive line coach Bill Bedenbaugh, it had been a quiet beginning to the summer.
Brooks had offers from across the country. This battle for a California recruit, however, was a good ol’ fashioned SEC battle between OU and Texas. Sounds funny to say, but there’s no doubt the schools moving to the SEC will potentially lead to more recruitments like Brooks.
Brooks was a June official visitor for the Sooners, but it wasn’t the #ChampUBBQ. He showed up the week before as the Sooners went all-in during the first couple of weeks. You knew OU was going to land a bunch of those prospects. You simply did not know who or when.

Brooks was in that spot, especially after visiting Texas the final weekend of June. But as this month has progressed, it became clear it was going to be a win for Bedenbaugh and the Sooners.
Brooks is ranked as a three-star prospect by On3 and 247 and a four-star by ESPN and Rivals. Listed at 6-foot-4 and 325 pounds, he is OU’s first commitment for an interior lineman.
The Sooners do have a pledge from offensive tackle Isaiah Autry. Bedenbaugh, obviously, will be looking to add more names in the weeks and months to come.
Brooks becomes the 16th member of OU’s 2024 class. A group that had just six in late-June is now rounding into form as planned. And we now know Brooks is also in that plan.
