Oklahoma baseball stays hot, whips Missouri

Maybe the short turnaround wasn’t a bad thing after all for Oklahoma baseball, who had just a lone travel day between its midweek Bedlam beatdown in Stillwater and Thursday night’s series opener against at Missouri.
Picking up right where they left off two nights prior, the Sooners collected 15 hits and walked nine times Thursday, exploding for five runs in the six and six in the eighth en route to a 17-4 run-rule victory over Missouri (8 innings).
Sooners, Gambill offensive heater continues
The bats are hot, specifically leadoff hitter Trey Gambill. He doubled his home run season total with a solo shot in the third and a two-run blast in the Sooners five run sixth, driving in a career-high six after a bases-clearing double in the eighth.
Oklahoma has scored 53 runs over its last five games, going 4-1 in that span.
And to think Oklahoma went to the plate in fifth tied 3-3.
Crossland goes a gutsy five innings
Cade Crossland cruised through the first six batters of the night before running into a hiccup in the third. After losing a 16-pitch battle to Jedier Hernandez, Missouri pushed a run across in third and it felt like momentum was starting to shift dugouts.
One inning later Crossland found himself in the crosshairs, again. Hernandez lifted a fly ball to right field only for it to be dropped along the right field foul line by Sam Christiansen, allowing two unearned runs to score, tying the game. But again, Crossland was able to limit the damage.
Jamie Hitt threw one inning and Michael Catalano collected the final six outs.
Home sweet home
Freshman designated hitter Drew Dickerson’s return to the Show Me State will be one that’ll he’ll remember for a long time.
The Lee’s Summit native opened the scoring in the second with an RBI single and plated a pair of runs with a two-run double in the fifth.

Dickerson finished the night going 3-for-4 with three RBIs and a walk. A career night in the hits and runs batted in departments, as he continues to get more confidence at the plate.
Mudler returns behind the dish
It wasn’t so much notable that Scott Mudler pinch hit in the eighth inning of a blowout as much as it was the fact he stayed in to catch the bottom half. A positive development, indeed, as the senior catcher continues his road to recovery after dislocating his shoulder a month ago against Mississippi State.
With a doubleheader on the schedule Friday, it’ll be interesting to see if he is given the opportunity to catch an entire game.
Next up
Oklahoma and Missouri will close out the series on Friday with a doubleheader at Taylor Stadium. First pitch of game one is set for noon. Both games will be broadcast on SEC Network+.
