Oklahoma baseball trio named to All-SEC teams

Ahead of its debut in the SEC Tournament, a trio of Oklahoma baseball players were recognized by the Southeastern Conference on Monday afternoon.
Junior RHP Kyson Witherspoon was named All-SEC first team. Battery mate Easton Carmichael was named to the All-SEC second team. Freshman second baseman Kyle Branch was named to the SEC All-Freshman team.
Oklahoma (33-19, 14-16) opens the SEC Tournament in Hoover, Ala., on Tuesday against 13-seed Kentucky (29-23, 13-17). First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. and the game will be televised by SEC Network.
Kyson Witherspoon, First Team All-SEC
After being tabbed a preseason first team all-conference selection to begin the year, Witherspoon went wire to wire leading the SEC in earned run average (2.48 – 23rd nationally) and wins (9 – 12th nationally). His 112 strikeouts ranks No. 4 in the conference and No. 7 nationally, posting a 112-to-20 strikeout-to-walk ratio (5.60).
Witherspoon is 9-3 in 14 starts this season with double-digit strikeouts four times and seven or more strikeouts 10 times. His 0.94 WHIP ranks him No. 2 in the conference and 15th in the NCAA.
He has also been named a semifinalist for the Golden Spikes Award (finalists June 4) and Dick Howser Trophy (finalists June 7). Those are two of the premier individual awards in college baseball.
Easton Carmichael, Second Team All-SEC
The junior catcher backed up a sophomore breakout campaign by leading Oklahoma offensively with a team-high 14 home runs, 26 extra-base hits, and 54 RBIs. His .593 slugging percentage and .981 OPS lead the team, along with 14 multi-RBI games and 19 multi-hit games.

Carmichael has started all 52 games this season, making 36 starts behind the plate. He is ranking No. 2 in conference play with six caught stealing punch outs.
Kyle Branch, Freshman All-SEC (Second Base)
The freshman infielder has started every game of his career at second base. He ranks No. 2 on the team in hits (58) and batting average (.304) with 26 RBIs, two home runs and 12 extra-base hits.
Branch has delivered a number of web gems defensively. He has posted a .959 fielding percentage (9 errors) up the middle of an Oklahoma infield that is responsible for an SEC-leading 24 double plays turned. He has started all 52 games this season.

Pitcher of the Year: Liam Doyle (Tennessee).
Freshman of the Year: Dylan Volantis (Texas).
Newcomer of the Year: Ace Reese (Mississippi State).
