Oklahoma softball head coach Patty Gasso has a very fun problem. She has four quality pitchers who can go out and get the job done.

You simply never know whose number is going to be called on a given day. It was Jordy Bahl time Saturday, and she came through in a massive way.

Bahl was near flawless in paving the way to OU’s 11-0 (6 innings) victory against Missouri in NCAA regional action at Marita Hynes Field.

Almost as good as it gets. Bahl allowed one hit and one walk. Other than that? It was a special outing with seven strikeouts in five innings. Bahl is now 16-1 and her ERA has dropped to 1.10.

“Our team will tell you that’s the most difficult pitcher to hit — somebody that throws really hard and can mix up up speeds at any time for strikes,” Gasso said. “When you’re sitting on a 2-0 count, you’re ready to look for something hard and she just has you guessing all the time. That’s very difficult for any kind of hitter.”

No injuries this time around, and Bahl is showing just show good she can be. It makes it quite the issue for opposing teams trying to figure out how to game plan vs. Oklahoma.

“It’s going to be very hard for people to plan for us,” Gasso said. “I don’t know if people expected Nicole May to be on the mound for our first game. You’re all going to be wondering who is going to be on the mound tomorrow. That’s part of the beauty of it.”

Oklahoma Takeaways

*Jayda Coleman showed her power with a home run Friday against Hofstra. It was her patience at the plate vs. the Tigers.

Coleman scored three times and was walked three times.

“I think she’s got one of the best eyes for the ball I’ve seen in a long time,” Gasso said. “She’s disciplined in that way. She knows how important walks are. She’s not chasing pitches out of the zone.”

*Bahl did her job for five innings, and then Kierston Deal came in and closed things out. Deal had two strikeouts and continues to get more and more comfortable in her role.

“Hard work. Hard work in the bullpen,” Gasso said. “All of the pitchers are working very hard. Rooting for each other. She’s been very patient waiting for those opportunities. Lefty-lefty matchups were coming, we wanted to give that a shot. Worked out very well.”

*The Sooners get to rest as Hofstra-Cal-Missouri will play into Saturday night to figure out who will take on OU at 1 p.m. Sunday in the final day of the regional. OU needs to win once Sunday to move on.
