OU basketball was given three straight days off for the holidays, and you could see the Sooners working themselves back into form.

It wasn’t always pretty, but they’re still perfect. OU was able to do what it needed to in an 89-67 victory against visiting Prairie View A&M on Sunday afternoon at the Lloyd Noble Center.

This is the first 13-0 start for OU since the 1987-88 season.

As has been the case most of the season, it’s someone taking a turn. It was Jeremiah Fears early. Then it was Jalon Moore in the second half. Duke Miles throughout. Even though it was a bit clunky at times, this team is really good when it’s good.

Now? Porter Moser and company will have to show they can handle the conference schedule and not wilt.

Game No. 13 OU Takeaways

*Moore only had two shots in the first half, six points. However, he found his groove in the second half. He was assertive despite having three fouls early in the half.

Started to take it hard to the basket, got to the foul line and made ‘em count.

Moore scored 16 of his 22 points in the second half.

*It was a red shot start from Jeremiah Fears. The freshman scored nine points in the first nine minutes of the game to get things going.

From there? It was just about letting the game come to him and picking his spots. He does that quite well, obviously.

Another solid outing from the freshman, with 19 points, five rebounds and three steals.

*Miles has it going. That second half against Michigan has just been a springboard for him. He had 17 against the Wolverines, then 29 last Sunday and now 17 points. That’s exactly the type of production OU saw coming when it went after him in the portal.

*Brycen Goodine has been known as nothing but a shooter. And he did drain a 3-pointer. But Sunday was the first time you saw him impact the game in other ways. Goodine had seven rebounds, really cleaning up the defensive glass. Had nine points as well.

*OU couldn’t have been better at the free throw line, almost literally. The Sooners were 32-of-35 from the charity stripe. Moore and Miles led the way, both making all seven attempts.

Up next

OK, here comes the SEC grind. The conference has three undefeated teams with No. 12 OU, Florida and Tennessee. And what a beginning to it all. OU starts at Alabama next Saturday and comes home against Texas A&M in less than two weeks. It’s here, it’s time.
